 QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of physical education
  • An understanding of teaching and the duties of a teacher as an educational leader
  • Eligibility to hold a valid instructional certificate as issued by the Department of Education for the state of Arkansas
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willingness to obtain after employment 
  • Any alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and reasonable

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the administration and staff to develop an efficient, effective and current curriculum that is aligned with state and federal standards and Board policies.
  • Work with administration and staff to acquire needed instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Establish a consistent classroom instructional schedule and maintain an orderly learning environment.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment in conjunction with the district's crisis management plan.
  • Maintain discipline procedures while preserving the instructional integrity and safety of the classroom.
  • Collect and maintain adequate records of student progress.
  • Evaluate test data and coordinate an action plan to improve student performance as required.
  • Establish high expectations and standards for behavior and performance.
  • Maintain communication between the school, home, and community.
  • Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
  • Plan activities, practices, and games in collaboration with the athletic director.
  • Travel with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
  • Enforce discipline policies and emphasize sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  • Supervise students in locker rooms at home and away games.
  • Check and secure all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after last player leaves athletic facility.
  • Ensure that medical and safety requirements are followed.
  • Ensure that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
  • Treat every sporting event like a classroom - provide high quality coaching instruction to students from start to finish at every level of the game regardless of the margin of lead or deficit and regardless of whether it is a summer camp or the state championship game.
  • Provide high quality coaching to all grade levels assigned.
  • Set high expectations of sportsmanship at all levels of the game.
  • Set high performance expectations - make students know they are capable of winning a state championship in every sport, every year.
  • Regradless of wins or losses, ensure the overall goal and vision is to instill a sense of pride, respect, and values in student athletes that goes beyond winning or losing.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Regularly monitor district email for pertinent communication and timely responses.
  • Submit all data and information as requested.
  • Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and district administrators.
  • Complete requested paperwork.
  • Be proficient with and have the ability to adapt to basic workplace technology
  • Prioritize safety by, among other things, ensuring that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of the district's crisis management plan. 
  • Model a high standard of professional excellence in the school, community, and on social media.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a vision of growth and support for the district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Frequent travel to school district offices and classrooms
  • Frequent walking throughout various buildings
  • Often sitting at desk for extended periods
  • Standing for limited periods of time
  • Manual dexterity to use office equipment
  • Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding
  • Maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress.
  • Must be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making
  • Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner. Observe all safety precautions.

 EVALUATION CRITERIA: 

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of Certified Personnel.
